Read! The story behind the Baba Jatau Memorial

Thursday, 3 March 2016

Not a few have wondered the motivation behind the remembrance event being held for the late Baba Jatau. Apart from the fact that he was an iconic beggar and was said to be one of those who constructed the Jatau bridge, people hardly know the reason for the hype.
The brain behind the remembrance Taofeek Adewale, narrated to the UDUS blog his reason for organising the event.
" One day I was really hungry but had no money to buy kerosene, so myself and my friend decided to jokingly ask the late Baba Jatau for money. We were surprised he whole heartedly gave us the money for the kerosene. At that point I was really touched seeing a beggar giving to others despite that he lacked.", he said.
He also stated that the man kept people lively with his
popular chants, hence he would not be forgotten.

Taofeek added that if he became financially buoyant in the future, he would build a hostel in his name
The remembrance event held today beginning from jatau bridge where funds were being generated. Taofeek stated that the funds would be used to create  a signboard at the  jatau bridge in his name. He added that the remaining money would be given to the late Baba Jatau's Family
